After completing work at the Formosan Golden Bats’ Home, Merlin traveled to Taichung, the second largest city in Taiwan, to speak at the National Museum of Natural Science.
Merlin’s lecture, sponsored by the Bat Association of Taiwan, at the National Museum of Natural Science in Tainchung
From there we traveled to the Endemic Species Research Institute of Taiwan located in the interior mountain town of Chi-Chi (JiJi) which in 1999 was devastated by an earthquake of 7.3 on the Richter scale. The town has since been rebuilt and the facilities at the institute were outstanding.
